WHAT TO DO BEFORE THE SEMINAR AND WHAT TO BRING:
It is important to be prepared so that everybody gets as much quality training as possible. If you just purchased and installed Dragon - please, please, please - be sure that it is totally registered and activated ahead of time. If not, you will not be able to use it after five attempts and we do not want to hold up class time for you to activate your dragon. Think of how aggravated you would be if somebody did that to you.
Please make sure you bring your mask if you are a mask writer or your headset if you are a digital recorder or a captioner, one that will fit into an Andrea pod and then into the on your computer. You always want to usea sound pod with your mask because you don't want any computer noise
interferring with your voice and messing up your recognition. Click on the link right above and it will take you to their website. This is a decent price for one.
I recommend the Sylencer mask from Tallk Technologies with The Smart Mic.
It's the best mic to use with a laptop. You can get it with two wires or one. One
wire goes into your Andrea pod and into the computer usb prot, and the other wire
can go into a digital recorder or whatever you use for backup of your voice.
You don't necessarily need to use the second wire because Eclipse saves your voice recording
and the room recording at the same time, but it's always a matter of personal preference.
If you click on the pix, it will take you to the site and you can look at what they have.
I have no extra equipment for borrowing, only what I have on hand to sell. If you need anything before the seminar, please call me or email me and I'll help you find what you need or I will sell it to you and bring it to the seminar. I do sell all equipment you will need, including computers.
Speaking of computers, if you are planning to be a voice writer or captioner, you cannot have old equipment. Voice recognition is high-tech. You are in a high-tech field. You must have a good computer to run Dragon efficiently. If you are running Dragon 11.5, you definitely should have a monster computer. Call me if you are looking to buy a computer and I will help guide you in the right direction. You can buy one from Advantage Software, or I can help you choose one from the internet or elsewhere. Although browsing the computers in Best Buy is way more fun for me than shoe-shopping, most computers at Best Buy are not adequate to run Dragon 11.5 efficiently. Did I mention Dragon 11.5 rocks? But regarding computers, just remember that cheap usually ends up costing more in the end.
By the way, I know this sounds harsh, but I will not feel sorry for you or slow down the pace of the class for you if you bring a raggedy sorry computer to use in the workshop and your Dragon does not run efficiently. Been there, done that. It's dragon abuse and I will not tolerate abusing dragons at any time. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FAST-ENOUGH COMPUTER TO RUN DRAGON, PLEASE.
This is not a CAT class. I will be glad to sell you Eclipse VOX in a heartbeat because it is fantastic software. However, that is not what we're teaching this particular day. Only Dragon. You must understand Dragon before you attempt to use any other CAT software.
That's it. That's my rules. Other than my high standards for equipment, this is going to be lots of fun and you will really enjoy learning Dragon. I know I enjoy teaching it and look forward to helping you begin a new relationship with your dragon.
