HELLO MY NEW FRIEND! SO NICE OF YOU TO STOP BY!

In case we haven't met before, my name is Johnna Barron, and I am always a student (I learn something new every day); and dabble here and there as a scopist (dailies are fun); a steno CART provider and reporter; a voice real-time writer and reporter; a software trainer and rep for Advantage Software (Eclipse and the Passport writer); and sometimes a speaker. I am also, I must admit, a crazy tech-aholic. If I ever found myself homeless, my sign would read: I WILL WORK FOR GADGETS. (check out my TECH page)

As CART or CAPTION providers, STENO or VOICE reporters, or scopists, we are in a high-stress job every day trying to do the best we can to produce a perfect (well, almost perfect, hopefully) work product. More and more we find ourselves depending on technology to help us become more efficient and perhaps expand our business and (please) our profits!

In my opinion, reporters today are standing at a crossroad: One road leads us to technology and bigger and better things; the other road, unfortunately, leads to obsolescence. We all know the truth. It's been staring at us for a while. We must embrace this ever-changing world of ours with enthusiasm and always take the road of most resistance (yes, computers). I know it's difficult, but learning new things keeps us keen and young, and we will be much happier in our chosen careers if we keep an open mind. I'm saving my butt; but who's going to save yours?
